Bio for Steve Crampton

  Steve Crampton

Stephen Crampton is Chief Counsel of the American Family Association Center for Law & Policy (CLP). Established in 1990 and based in Tupelo, Mississippi, the CLP is a public interest-type law firm specializing in constitutional litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country. The CLP also advises state and federal legislators on constitutional, political and legal issues and drafts legislation for governmental bodies at the local, state and federal level. The CLP responds to the requests of Christians for legal representation involving First-Amendment free speech and free exercise rights, as well as the constitutional issues involved in the continuing battle against pornography and obscenity.

Mr. Crampton practices exclusively in the area of constitutional rights. He has served as lead counsel in a number of reported decisions in state and federal district and appellate courts. In his role as a policy advisor, Mr. Crampton has assisted in drafting legislation at both state and national levels, as well as advising lawmakers on constitutional issues.

Mr. Crampton is a regular contributor for We Hold These Truths, a daily radio program featuring the CLP attorneys discussing constitutional issues, particularly the First Amendment and other issues of public policy. The program airs on nearly 200 American Family Radio stations across the country.

Mr. Crampton frequently speaks on constitutional rights and social issues. He has appeared as a guest on nationally televised news programs on CNN, FOX News and MSNBC, in addition to being a frequent guest on national radio programs. He has been quoted in major publications such as The Washington Post, The Washington Times and the National Law Journal.

Mr. Crampton is a member of the International Who's Who and serves on the Boards of Janet Folger's Faith 2 Action ministry, the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools and the Excelsior Classical Christian Academy, where he teaches constitutional law. He received his law degree from the University of New Mexico, where he was a member of the Law Review. Mr. Crampton resides in Tupelo, Miss., with his wife and six children.
